Lady Tams clip Eagles, force playoff for last berth

Posted under News by admin on Friday 3 September 2010 at 8:08 am

Far Eastern U refused to wilt under pressure and frustrated Ateneo, 25-21, 27-25, 11-25, 25-18, forcing a playoff for the last Final Four berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.

The Lady Tams recovered from a sloppy third set setback as they re-grouped in the fourth to pound out the victory in 1:33 and stay in the hunt for the fourth and last seat in the semifinal round of the league’s season-ending conference.

Lyceum survived National U’s gritty stand and carved out a tough 25-13, 26-24, 25-23 victory to clinch the third semis berth in the first game.

The Lady Pirates finished with a 7-5 slate for third. San Sebastian-Excelroof and Adamson finished with identical 10-2 cards to clinch the top two berths.

Lady Pirates thwart Bulldogs, clinch Final 4 berth

Posted under News by admin on Friday 3 September 2010 at 8:03 am

Lyceum survived National U’s gritty stand and carved out a tough 25-13, 26-24, 25-23 victory to clinch the third Final Four berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.

Mary Jean Balse and Dahlia Cruz combined for 30 kills while Joy Cases stepped up to fire 12 hits but the Lady Pirates had to walk the tightrope to subdue an also-ran NU side in one hour and 13 minutes.

That gave Lyceum a closing 7-5 slate as it joined early semifinalists San Sebastian and Adamson with Ateneo trying to complete the Final Four cast with a victory over Far Eastern U at presstime.

Out of it all, the Lady Bulldogs still went for a victory in a bid to close out their campaign on a winning note but they fell short of their upset bid, losing crucial points at endgame of the last two sets.

Still, the newcomers proved they could be a force to reckon with in future conferences of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza with Maricar Nepomuceno leading the charge with 14 hits and Mervic Mangui and Denise Santiago adding 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Lady Eagles, Pirates try to complete semis cast

Posted under News by admin on Thursday 2 September 2010 at 12:06 am

The Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference quarterfinal round draws to a close today with Ateneo and Lyceum out to complete the Final Four cast and Far Eastern U hoping to force a playoff for the last semis berth at The Arena in San Juan.

While the Lady Pirates are tipped to clinch the third Final Four seat against the ousted National U Lady Bulldogs in the 2 p.m. opener, the Lady Eagles will be hard-pressed to repeat over the Lady Tams in the 4 p.m. encounter expected to go down-to-the-wire.

Ateneo swept FEU in the league’s season-ending inaugurals last July 11 but the Tams are expected to get back at the Eagles and force a playoff for the last Final Four seat. Lyceum and Ateneo are tied at third with 6-5 slates while FEU is a game behindat 5-6.

The Lady Falcons  outspiked the Bulldogs, 43-26, drawing a combined 23-attack effort from Nerissa  Bautista and Angela Benting as they rolled to their fifth straight for a 10-2  (win-loss) slate.

Lady Pirates clip Tams, gain playoff

Posted under News by admin on Monday 30 August 2010 at 1:41 pm

Lyceum fended off Far Eastern U in a tough second set duel then hung tough in the third to fashion out a 25-18, 27-25, 25-21 victory and assure itself of a playoff for the last Final Four berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan last Sunday.

The Lady Pirates drew another pair of solid games from their guest players as Mary Jean Balse unloaded 24 hits and Dahlia Cruz provided the needed backup of 15 points as the Muralla-based squad stayed on course of its first-ever title
bid in the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

The victory was Lyceum’s sixth against five losses as it tied Ateneo in third heading into the last quarterfinal playdate where it will face ousted National U on Thursday.

FEU dropped to 5-6, turning its final match against Ateneo a battle for the last semifinal berth in the season-ending conference organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa and Excelroof.

San Sebastian-Excelroof turned back Ateneo, 25-19, 25-17, 27-25, also last Sunday to finish with a 10-2 slate in a tie with two-time tormentor Adamson, which also won NU, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20. But the Lady Stags beat the Lady Falcons in the tiebreak to clinch the top spot in the semis.

Lady Stags down Eagles, clinch top spot

Posted under News by admin on Monday 30 August 2010 at 1:38 pm

San Sebastian-Excelroof repulsed Ateneo in a big third set comeback to complete a 25-19, 25-17, 27-25 victory and gain the top spot in the Final Four of the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.

The Lady Stags, after taking the first two sets, trailed the Lady Eagles majority of the third but made one big run in the stretch, forcing a tie at 23.

Ateneo still took the next point but San Sebastian won four of the next five points to clinch the victory in 1:12.
Earlier, Adamson completed its sweep of the quarterfinal round of the season-ending conference sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza, fashioning out a three-set romp over ousted National University, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20.

SSC thus tied Adamson on top with 10-2 slates at the end of the quarters but the Lady Stags claimed the No. 1 spot in the Final Four with a superior quotient under FIVB rules.

The Lady Stags will thus meet the No. 4 team in the best-of-three semis, a spot being disputed by Lyceum and Far Eastern U.
