Ateneo pulled off a gem of a steal in the pivotal third set then overpowered University of Santo Tomas in the fourth to carve out a 25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 25-13 victory and clinch the first finals berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 before a big Thursday crowd at the MOA Arena in Pasay City last night.

Ateneo, drawing added firepower from Thai hitter Jeng Bualee, snatched a fiercely-disputed third set then overwhelmed UST in the fourth as it rallied from a set down to fashion out a 20-25, 25-15, 29-27, 25-14 victory before a roaring crowd at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City yesterday.
Bualee, the former San Sebastian reinforcement, came away with 19 hits, providing a solid backup to Alyssa Valdez, who spewed a game-high 25 points, while Rachel Ann Daquis and Fille Cainglet combined for 23 hits to power the Lady Eagles to victory in the opener of their best-of-three Final Four series. The Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference holds its Final Four today (Tuesday) with defending back-to-back champion Ateneo clashing with six-time winner UST and unbeaten National U battling a surging Adamson side in a pair of blockbuster matches tipped to go down-to-the-wire.
